ELA, CPALMS, and Internet Searching, OH MY!

In the Florida Standards Science - Computer Science Standards, for Kindergarten one of the standards is from the Body of Knowledge: COMPUTER SCIENCE - PERSONAL, COMMUNITY, GLOBAL, AND ETHICAL IMPACT. Standard 1 is being responsible for how you use technology and information. An example of that is showing your students how to properly take care of electronic devices. Like, showing students how to handle devices or remembering to keep food and water away from your device. I do feel prepared to implement this standard. I feel this is a fairly simple standard and most of it is teaching kids common sense about taking care of their electronics.     From the CPALMS Educator Toolkit, I decided to choose a lesson from Kindergarten math. I chose the lesson, recognizing and writing numbers 0 and 1. Most of the lesson requires you to give a certain number of objects to the students and have them count out 0 or 1. After they are able to recognize 0 or 1 object, they will then practice

Copyright Use and Other Issues with Technology

Image
Copyright is a way of protecting what is yours. This means that you have exclusive use of what is your property and have the right to distribute their work to whom they wish to distribute it to. Fair use are the guidelines that are in place that allow people to copy other people's work within reason. As a teacher, I would make sure that my students are aware of copyright in a way that they can understand. For example, with Kindergarteners, I would express that it is not ok to take other classmates work and that what you write or create is yours. I would also express to be careful with who you give your work to because they might do something that isn't kind like give it to everyone without your permission.           Technology Implementation Issues is a very serious topic and while I can't solve every issue, I can at least try and provide two solutions to the following two problems. With academic dishonesty, I can emphasize to my students that it is never ok to cheat

Digital Natives and Standards for Educators

I have a lot of experience with MS Word. I remember starting to use MS Word as young as third grade. I have always used MS Word. I have typed up a lot of projects and papers especially throughout high school and college. It wasn't until high school when I started using Google Docs. I'm not a huge fan of Google Docs, I definitely prefer MS Word, but the only thing I like about Google Docs is that it is great for group projects. Other than that though I like using MS Word mainly because I am more familiar with it and think the software works better.     The ITSE Standards for Educators that has the most impact on me is the Citizen. This standard is when educators inspire students to contribute positively and responsibly in the digital world. They teach how to build relationships online, promote curiosity. They teach how to be safe, legal and ethical with the digital tools they are given. This sticks out to me because I want to make sure that as a teacher I am keeping my

HELLO AND WELCOME!

hi guys! my name is Abigail! I was born and raised in Tallahassee, FL. I have four younger brothers who drive me crazy but I love them dearly. I am a junior at Florida State University majoring in Human Development and Family Science with a minor in Education. As of right now in my life, I hope to become a Preschool or Kindergarten teacher. I am currently taking an Education Technology class with the hope that I will learn how to better apply technology in my future classroom. I have a little experience when it comes to using technology in an educational setting. In middle school and high school, I had a lot of projects that involved using PowerPoint. My teachers like to play Kahoot or Quizlet live as a method of review before a quiz/test/exam. Since my freshmen year of college, I have worked at an after school care program. Here I have used media like YouTube to play fun dancing videos to allow the kids to let our their energy or calming, relaxing videos for brain breaks and to get th
