Reflection

Some of the skills I learned from completing Assignment 5 was how to hyperlink text and changing the setting so that the linear flow of the PowerPoint is turned off. I really loved creating my Jeopardy and finding all of the questions and answers and adding them to the PowerPoint. It was a great, fun way to become more accustomed with how to work PowerPoint. However, I didn't like how long and tedious the assignment was. There was a lot of detail that became very monotonous. I loved seeing how creative my classmates have been with their blogs. You can see that we are learning the tips on technology very well as we are implementing them into our blogs. The websites that I checked out from my classmates' blogs was very interesting. I loved getting to see what grades they are passionate about and the kind of resources they found for their "students." I want to learn how to best implement the Smart Boards into the classroom. I think they can be a very useful tool in the c

Open Educational Resources

Image
My experience in EME2040 has been a really positive one! I like the flexibility of the class and how all of our assignments are easily laid out for us on Canvas. My classmates have also been really great and I like hearing their opinions on technology and education. I don't have anything I dislike about my classroom experience. One thing I would do when I am a teacher is incorporate more hands on activities throughout the class as opposed to the class being mainly lectures. Open Educational Resources are learning resources that anyone can access. There are five rights associated with OER. The five rights are Retain, controlling copies; Reuse, content in a wide range; Revise, change the content itself; Remix, combine the original and revised content; and Redistribute, sharing the original, revised, and remixed copy. The website I found about OER is a    nonprofit’s mission: to increase equity in K–12 education by making excellent, top-rated curricula openly accessible to districts a

Technology and Teacher Professional Development

Image
I had a great time designing my teacher website! One of the principles of web design I used was repetition. I made sure to keep the fonts for my titles and body text all the same size, design and color so that everything was easy to follow. I really like the assignment! It was a fun and engaging way to use the stuff we have learned in class and apply it to a fun activity. But not just an activity, but something that I will most likely have to do when I am a teacher. It was great to be able to get creative and come up with a fun website that parents and students can use. These will be skills that will definitely  help me down the line when I am a teacher. Below this paragraph, you can find a link to the website that I created. Make sure to check it out! Hello Kindergarten!   Through using Diigo, I have gotten better at using Google Advanced Search and finding good quality articles that pertain to the topic. I have also gotten better at picking out the most important parts of an article

Teacher Tools and Class Websites

The link provided below is to a middle school language art teacher's website. On her website, you can see a meet the teacher section with her name, phone number, email address and a short paragraph about who she is and the kind of teaching experience she has. On her website she has a link to all of the resources the students might need in her class and also the link to the online textbook. The final link provides all of her weekly lessons, giving an overview of what they have covered.  https://www.leonschools.net/Page/7000 Technology is such an important part of education in today's age. As a teacher, it is so important now to stay productive and efficient; the best way to do that is to stay accustomed with the technological tools that exist. I really think a lot of the google tools like docs, calendar, classroom, drive, etc. are all great tools for teachers to use to stay on top of things. Just in my time as a student, these tools have been very resourceful for me and help me

My Experience with Diigo and Blogging

Image
I think Diigo is an okay website. I'm still not entirely sure what the purpose of Diigo is and why people use it. Up until this class I had never heard of it. I do like how simple it is to use. When you are in a group, it is nice to have fellow peers' thoughts, opinions, and resources. I just don't like the whole idea of the website. It's not bad, I just don't see it being something I would go back to after this class. Blogging has been good. I have never really blogged before, but after the last six weeks, I can say that I like it. It's an easy, simple way to get your thoughts out. It has helped me reflect a lot on the material I have worked on this semester in a fun way. I especially like adding images to my blogs!  A web 2.0 tool I would want to use when I am a teacher is ABCmouse.com. I think it's a great website for younger kids to use if they are struggling with certain subject. It's an easy website for parents and teachers to follow, but most impo

Twitter and the Digital Divide

Image
I don't have too much experience using Twitter. I have searched for different teaching/education accounts and I responded to one person's twitter chat, but other than that, I have very little interactions on Twitter. I really don't think Twitter is going to have any influence or affect in my future career. I understand how it can be helpful for some teachers in reaching out to others to get inspiration or advice. I just feel that I can search for the information elsewhere and not use Twitter. Digital divide discusses the gap between people who do and do not have access to technology. For the students who do not have easy access to technology, it might be very challenging for them to do schoolwork or homework especially since the majority of work is assigned online. Or say a student has a laptop, but their house doesn't have internet. Some causes of digital are based on income or the education of your parents. If your parents have money and a good education, their c
